I manually control my own inventory (control freak) and they have an out of stock category that will retain the items forever - that's a big plus for me because sometimes I can't find thing for weeks where they would disappear on eBay. For me at $30 a month it's a keeper AND I'm actually generating sales - Bonus. Is B/C perfect? just in case you want to tell me about all their glitches - no it's not perfect BUT they have 24 hour support and if I do have a glitch it's generally addressed right away and fixed. Just the pressure of not having eBay tell me how to run my business was a blessing. Then came the "we lost all your pictures" thing so I reopened on Big Commerce. Devoted myself to ebay (yes one more time) My host/provider never kept up with things like I could only list 1 picture - he refused to put paypal button on things like that so I simply dumped it.

If they need to throw you under the bus for one reason or another they won't even blink when doing it. They only care about your money, not about you. Focus on SEO to drive traffic through google and stop selling on any marketplace it would be the end of them. If just all sellers would launch their own site. The only thing they do is treath their sellers as a piece of garbage. And the day you no longer need them? Drop them as a brick. Drive traffic to your website so that you no longer need Ebay/Amazon. Put a card with discount code with your Ebay orders and try to promote your own website on every possible way (change your Ebayname to reflect your website address). Your prices will look cheaper, and will effecively be a lot cheaper if people buy multiple items. Offer free shipping on Ebay but price + shipping on your website. Meaning you can communicate outside of Ebay and offer them a discount if they buy something else on your website. Meaning you also have your customers email address. Your Ebay orders will be imported on your website. If you sell it on Ebay your stock will be updated on your website. If you sell the item on your website your Ebaylisting will be ended.
